Occasions: New Year's Day
By the tender mercy of our God,
the dawn from on high will break upon us,
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Surviving the holidays largely intact is an emotional and spiritual victory. As the new year approaches, look forward. Move toward the reality of life without your loved one. You honor the steadfast love and faithfulness of God with resolute trust in God’s plan for your future. As you begin the new year, dare to contemplate the endless possibilities of life beyond death and life beyond grief. Greet the new year with hope, for with the dawn comes light and peace.
Prayer
God, as the new year approaches, I pray for renewal and personal transformation. Your tender mercy has brought light into my darkness. I am grateful that you guide my feet into the way of peace. Amen.
