G]odliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8 NRSV

Godliness is not always at the forefront of human thought. Yet there is perhaps no greater walk of godliness than through the valley of the shadow of death. You live in godliness when you trust God’s promise for your present life and the life to come. Godliness is indeed valuable in every way as you journey through grief.

God, I pray that the godliness you desire is somewhere within my grief-stained heart. I receive the promise of your Spirit for the present and the future. Amen.

Godliness is valuable in every way, especially in my grief.
