“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” John 15:7 NRSV

Thought

The image of the vine and its branches suggests complete interdependency. Without the vine, there can be no fruit; without the potential for fruit, the vine is of little use. Especially in grief, your desire is to grow in faith and be fruitful. When you abide in God, you grow spiritually through grief.

Prayer

God, you know that in my heart I wish that my loved one would return to me in this life. But this is not what you want me to pray. May my greater, wiser wish be the desire of your heart for mine. Amen.

Assurance

Through prayer I am transformed and renewed.
