“You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.” Matthew 5:8 The Message
Grief is, in part, about sorting out and reassembling your inside world after the death of your loved one. At the moment you feel present to yourself again—changed yet returned after a long and precarious absence from the world—you respond to the irresistible emotional urge to engage and venture forth again. Perhaps you reach out to encounter a stranger for even a moment, testing to see if there still is a heart within you that validates the mechanics of a long-unused smile. When your mind and heart are restored to full citizenship within yourself, you see clear evidence of God in the outside world.
God, through the nurture of the Holy Spirit you have restored my inside world. I am grateful that my mind and heart are again attuned to life so that I better see you at work in the world. Amen.
Grief is about the realignment of my mind and heart.
