“Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” Mark 11:25 NRSV

Thought

One of the heaviest loads of grief—as well as life in general—is the great ledger book of life. In forgiveness, you reconcile for a last time, then definitively shut your closely held book of accounts on the shortcomings of yourself and others. When you give up lifetime recordkeeping, you lighten the load. You offload the past and move toward the future in the light of full forgiveness.

Prayer

God, in prayer I acknowledge to you my forgiveness of others—not so that you will forgive me, but because you continue to teach and renew my heart in your grace. Amen.

Assurance

God expects me to forgive others.
