Happy are those whom you discipline, O LORD. Psalm 94:12 NRSV

Thought

For some, happiness is a way of life. Those with a naturally sunny disposition are often sustained through grief by a greater sense of hope and optimism than those who are by nature more introverted or reserved. In grief, happiness comes to you indirectly. It is the result of something you have already done: you have grieved. Happiness, then, is a reward at the end of the journey through grief.

Prayer

God, you have gently yet firmly disciplined me to do the work of grief. I am grateful for your direction and guidance in the way toward happiness in you. Amen.

Assurance

God’s discipline instructs my happiness.
