This day is holy to our LORD; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10 NRSV

Thought

In grief, sadness may become a comfortable habit. With your loved one, there was great joy. Grief teaches you that it is not a betrayal of the one lost to you in death to be joyful again in life. Joy may require both practice and discipline of the spirit. Resolving the issue of joy is a finishing touch to grief. Take up your life where it is. Move on and beyond in fullness of joy.

Prayer

God, on this day of rest may I abide in your holiness. I am grateful for the joy of your strength in my soul. Amen.

Assurance

In joy there is strength for my new life.
