All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” Acts 2:12 NRSV

Thought

What does this mean?” “Why did he/she die?” “Why my child?” When your loved one dies, you are tormented by questions. You want answers because you are perplexed. When tragedy strikes, you are stunned. For a while, questions may be the constant theme of your chaotic thoughts. When you ask “Why?” it is a cry of pain that reflects your anguish and confusion. It is the emotional response of your heart to grief.

Prayer

God, can you tell me, “What does this mean?” I am amazed by the power of death. I do not understand. For now, there are no answers except that I am not supposed to know. Amen.

Assurance

God will reveal to me the extent of the mystery that I need to know.
