Confusion: Day 4

. . . perplexed, but not in despair.
2 Corinthians 4:8b NIV

Thought

You are perplexed by never-to-be answered questions about the death of your loved one. There is mental and emotional confusion about the vast mystery of death. In dark moments you tiptoe to the precipice of grief and peek over the edge into the unknown. You ask, perhaps again and again, “Why did he or she die and not me?” The questions of grief echo. Perplexed, you wait in faith for answers. When you trust that God knows the why, there is no place for despair, even in grief.

Prayer

God, I am perplexed. For me there is no order or sense or reasoning in death. I torture myself to know the unknowable. Penetrate my confusion with your presence. Amen.

Assurance

Though I am perplexed by death, I wait on God and do not despair.
