Contentment: Day 6

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Thought

There is great triumph in contentment. When you are gradually refilled with life after the physical and emotional drain of grief, you better understand the contrast between need and plenty. For a while, grief feels like a starvation diet. You hunger for love, for the presence of your loved one, and for life as it was in the past. When at last you realize that you are content, you understand that you have been nourished by grief with the real food of life.

Prayer

God, grief has within many secrets that you have graciously revealed to me over time. Thank you for the contrast of need and plenty and for your soul-satisfying grace. Amen.

I find contentment in plenty and in my want.
