Yet God prolongs the life of the mighty by his power; they rise up when they despair of life.
Job 24:22 NRSV
Grief is despair in response to the emotional upheaval of death. Despair is the dark side of grief. It is a place of emotional surrender as you journey through the valley of the shadow of death. When you despair of life, you may drift unaware into cynical acceptance or defeated resignation. Grief assails your hope; without hope you despair. By the power of God you are raised up from despair.
God, you alone are mighty. By your power, prolong my life beyond today that I may rise up from despair. Amen.
The antidote to my despair is hope.
