Light dawns for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.
Psalm 97:11 NRSV
There are many incarnations of light—candlelight, incandescent light, sunlight, moonlight, the radiance of brilliant stars. In grief, light is the delicate balance between sadness and your hope for the future. Light is your enjoyment of one or two aspects of the holiday season and your ability to survive largely intact. Light is your heightened peace. Light is your understanding of the gift of joy.
God, you give light and joy in Christ. May I honor your gift with an upright heart that refuses to be forever darkened by grief. Amen.
In light I see the dawn of new life.
