Fear: Day 5

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
Psalm 46:2-3 NRSV

Thought

Grief feels like a catastrophe that is personal and life-changing. The earth changes, mountains shake in the heart of the sea, waters roar and foam, mountains tremble with tumult. Grief is like a tsunami with its lethal undertow of pain and sorrow. You react with fear—agitation, anxiety, disquiet, and apprehension. Where is your safe haven when death upends your life? Your refuge is in God, who never changes.

Prayer

God, you are my refuge and strength. Be present to me at this time of great tumult in my life. It is easier to say that I will not fear than it is to be unafraid. Amen.

Assurance

I will not fear. God is my very present help in trouble.
