Holidays: Day 2

Have no dread of them, for the LORD your God, who is present with you, is a great and awesome God.
Deuteronomy 7:21 NRSV

Thought

When you grieve, it is normal to entertain a certain dread of the holiday season. Dread is disquiet within your heart. Dread is worry. Dread may show up as emotional or physical distress. Dread is often just the simple human misery of loneliness. In the extreme, dread is fear, a very human response to grief. As you approach the holiday season, remember that anticipation is usually much worse than the actual holiday. Often you resolve much of your fear ahead of time, and the day is not as difficult as you expect.

Prayer

God, I am awash in dread, fearful of the holiday season ahead. I give thanks that you are a great and awesome God. Amen.

Assurance

I will think about making it through just this holiday.
