Occasions: Memorial/Veterans Day
Therefore take up the whole armour of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:13-17 NRSV
Thought
God is unfailing in presence to all who now serve their country. God has comforted those who throughout the ages have grieved the fallen. God honors those who make the supreme sacrifice of life to a higher cause than personal gain. God equips those whom you honor today with the spiritual endowments of one who serves—endurance, truth, faith. Remember and cherish your loved one in patriotic righteousness.
Prayer
God, I am grateful for the heroic sacrifice of all who have ever defended liberty and freedom. I remember today in reverent appreciation the life and selfless service of my loved one. Amen.
Assurance
There is no greater love than to sacrifice it for another.
