The Past: Day 1

Remember the days of old, consider the years long past.
Deuteronomy 32:7 NRSV

Thought

As growth gradually redirects your grief, you become more immersed in the positive, life-sustaining memories of your relationship with your loved one than in the unalterable fact of death. For some, it may take several years to work through profound loss and grief. There is no benefit to reliving the past by scraping back through the emotional anguish and sorrow of dying and death, because the outcome will always be the same. Reliving is unproductive grief; remembering memorializes the best of the past while cherishing the present gift of today.

Prayer

God, it is important to pause and look back to remember the past so that I may give thanks again for all that was, even as I grow into the life that will yet be. Amen.

Assurance

The past informs the rest of the life I have been given to live.
