The Past: Day 2
For a thousand years in your sight
are like yesterday when it is past,
or like a watch in the night.
Psalm 90:4 NRSV
Thought
Your earthly life together with your loved one was real. Memories will always float up, reminding you that the past is forever a very real part of your life. Nothing can void or erase what you had in whatever lifetime you shared together. But living defensively in the present—in stalwart defense of the past—negates the defenseless future. “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day” (2 Peter 3:8 NIV).
Prayer
God, your sense of time is eternal. The past seems like only yesterday, even as I grow forward through your grace. Amen.
Assurance
The past is a sacred space in my life that will always be.
