The Past: Day 6

From ages past no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who works for those who wait for him.
Isaiah 64:4 NRSV

Thought

God is at work in your life even as you wait for God in grief. When you wait, life seems to be neither in the past nor in the present. The experience of life in suspended animation is that of always waiting for “something to happen.” You may chafe at “marking time,” or waiting on “the next thing.” Does the past dictate the present or the future? Will there yet be life not entirely defined by what once was and will never be again? God speaks in your heart; listen for the answer.

Prayer

God, no one has ever heard or sensed or seen how you work to order the universe and the world in which we live. In faith I know that you are at work in my life. I wait for you. Amen.

Assurance

I hold on. I let go. I grieve and grow forward into the present.
