The Past: Day 7

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39 NIV

Thought

By its very omission, it is profound that Romans 8:38-39 does not include the past as a force capable of separating you from the love of Christ. The past has no power over life or death or your relationship with God through Christ. You arrive at an important moment in grief when what was—the past—no longer competes with what is—the present—for meaning and purpose in your life.

Prayer

God, I rest today in new understanding that the past cannot separate me from your love. I am grateful for your tenacious grace that teaches me more of you through my grief. Amen.

Assurance

The past was then; this is now. What happened belongs to the past.
