Victimization: Day 4

But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, he perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”
2 Samuel 12:19 NRSV

Thought

David was not spared the harsh reality of death. No one relied on the euphemisms of death—“He passed away,” “He’s gone,” “He’s not with us anymore”—to communicate the truth to David. Likely you were affected by the words that were used to express the fact of the death of your loved one, as well. “He is dead.” “She is dead.” Often these words signal the onset of grief.

Prayer

God, death is so harsh. There are no comfortable words to make it less so. You promise that in death there is life. I am assured even though I grieve. Amen.

Assurance

When there are no answers to the mystery of life and death, I look within to what I believe.
