Worry: Day 3

“Do not worry.”
Matthew 6:31 NRSV

Thought

Jesus said, “Again the command: Do not worry.” Worry is a learned habit, one that is well-taught by grief. Worry is really an acquired state of mind and thought nurtured by grief. As with all habits in life, overcoming worry is mind over matter. When worry is the sole substance of your thinking, say to yourself, “Do not worry.” As you intentionally learn to recognize worry, you disarm its power over you as a symptom of grief.

Prayer

God, it is easy to remind myself not to worry, but it is very difficult not to worry. Direct my thoughts away from worry toward you. Amen.

Assurance

Worry is a side-effect of grief, not a permanent condition.
